THE IMPORTANCE OF LEARNER CONTROL IN AN ONLINE LEA

With the increasing use of computers in educational settings such as schools, universities and TAFE’s, much research has been carried out on the critical success factors of teaching in an online environment. Being such a relatively new method of teaching, there has not only been significant debate regarding such critical success factors, but also regarding what qualifies as teaching in an online environment. For example, some studies have focused their attention on the design factors of online lecture slides for distance education students (Manathunga, 2002), whereas others focus on the relationship between desired participation venue, actual participation venue, and resulting performance (Vician & Brown, 2002).
